Athames
The athame is a ceremonial, double-edged knife.
The athame's primary use is for ritual and magical purposes, to direct energy and to 'draw' a ritual circle.
It is also used in the Great Rite as a symbol of the masculine, joining with the symbol of the feminine, the chalice.
Not to be confused with the Roman Secespita, which was used for ritual sacrifice.
The athame is a tool of the element of air - representing the 'cutting edge' of reason, which separates logic from all other distractions (such as emotion), allowing for 'clear cut' communication, thinking and learning.
